The Teachings

The teachings of the Buddha can be traced back to the oral Pali recitations formulated at the first Buddhist General Council , 30 years after the death of the Buddha. This council was attended by 500 Arahants (Enlightened Ones) and convened by King Ajasattu of Magadha. These original teachings have been preserved in its original form, reviewed by five subsequent councils and constitute what is known today as the Tipitaka ( Three baskets of the teachings).
